Scope of Work:

  • Interior design and decor for a newly purchased apartment
  • Balancing modern contemporary aesthetics with Indian ethnic elements
  • Complete design execution within one month

Understanding the Client’s Vision

The Kataria family wanted their new home to reflect warmth and sophistication while incorporating a blend of modern contemporary and Indian ethnic styles. While they had a few existing pieces they wished to retain, 90% of the decor and furniture were newly curated. They placed complete trust in my design approach and allowed me full creative freedom to shape their space. I began the process with an in-depth meeting to understand their lifestyle, preferences, and specific functional requirements. Based on this, I curated mood boards for each space to align with their vision.

Design Concept & Execution

1.Living Area:

A harmonious blend of modern contemporary and Indian ethnic styles, creating a warm and inviting space for family gatherings.

2.Bedrooms:
  1. Master Bedroom (Son’s Room – 26-year-old Bachelor): A sleek, modern design reflecting his personality and dynamic lifestyle.
  2. Bedroom 2 (Mrs. Kataria’s Room): A minimalistic and ethnic space with soft tones and traditional accents.
  3. Bedroom 3: A minimalistic boho retreat, embracing neutral colors and relaxed aesthetics.
3.Lounge Area:
  • Designed with ample storage for displaying their daughter’s trophy collection (she is a golfer).
  • Comfortable couches for reading and relaxation, blending functionality with style.

Challenges Faced & Solutions

  • Limited availability of basic items in the developing locality: Last-minute sourcing became a challenge, but with strategic planning, I ensured smooth execution.
  • Vendor reliability issues: Learned the importance of directly connecting vendors with the client to avoid miscommunications and unnecessary stress.

Key Takeaways from the Project

  • Every project is a learning experience—adapting and problem-solving is key.
  • Patience is crucial, and vendor reliability should never be taken for granted.
  • Deliver your best, but set boundaries—100% effort is commendable, but overextending can lead to unnecessary stress.

Final Thoughts

This project reinforced my belief in creating spaces that reflect the personality and lifestyle of the homeowners while maintaining a seamless fusion of aesthetics and functionality. The Katarias now have a home that is inviting, stylish, and uniquely theirs.
